Crooked Stick named BEST NEW TRAIL by Virginia Recreation and Parks Society

Dear SVMBA members,

I would like to take a minute to tell you about your latest accomplishment. Like most all Parks and Recreation departments in the state of Virginia, we are a member of our state professional organization, the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society (VRPS). As part of our involvement, we submit our accomplishment throughout the year in designated categories for awards. This year a new award category was developed, Best New Greenway, Blueway or Trail. At first, I thought we would submit a section of the Riverwalk Trail to compete. But after reading the criteria, the only NEW section of trail we could submit was “Crooked Stick” as it met all the requirements. So to make a long story short, the best new trail in the state of Virginia for the population of 25,000 to 50,000 is CROOKED STICK. Congratulations, you all should be very proud of this accomplishment, you competed against trails and communities from all across the state, and WON.

While we here at Parks, Recreation and Tourism submitted for and received the award, SVMBA was deservingly given the credit for the work.

The City of Danville and the Danville Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department appreciates everything you do to make our community better.  The countless hours and time that you spend developing and maintaining trail should not be underestimated.  As individuals and as an organization, you are not only building award winning trails, you are also building a community.  We thank you for all your hard work and dedication and look forward to continuing this great relationship.  Again, Thank you.

This event and SVMBA's support of the Philpott Trailbuilding efforts are part of a Memorandum of Understanding with The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that SVMBA signed earlier this year.
