SEPTEMBER 2008

SVMBA celebrates "Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day" at Anglers Ridge Trail System

October 4th is fast approaching and the plans for the 'Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day' are becoming more exciting by the minute. Today we received an event package from IMBA to help our event become a very fun one! There are healthy snacks, t-shirts (to be raffled), stickers and other neat stuff to make your day enjoyable. I hope you all are planning on coming out and making the most of your day of biking! Please think about who you would like to join you for the event. Maybe a neighbor, a classmate, a cousin, or just a friend. And also make sure you and your riding partner bring your helmet.

Below is a link from IMBA's website describing the event. Our club is already in the raffle for a Schwinn bike compliments of IMBA. They will give out 10 bikes after the event has been held to ten lucky clubs. Let's try and have a great turnout and email IMBA lots of pictures to show them that our club is dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle for the kids in our community.

    Thank you,

     Scott Buckner  -president SVMBA-

IMBA'S International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day

IMBA will celebrate its fifth annual International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day on Saturday, October 4, 2008. This is a great opportunity for you to pass your passion for pedaling on to kids! Schwinn has generously donated 10 youth-sized mountain bikes which will be awarded by raffle to participating clubs who register and ride on International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.

Here are some things you can do to participate:

  1. Organize a ride in your local area. IMBA can help you plan an event - either large or small. Please register your ride and we will announce your event on the IMBA website. All events registered before Monday, September 15 at 7pm EST will be sent a Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day Event-in-a-Box, which will include Clif Kid ZBars, official Race Plates, special kids stickers, and three t-shirts to give away as prizes. Your group will also be eligible to win a new Schwinn youth mountain bike. Register an event.
  2. Spread the word. This event is a great opportunity for kids and groups to experience mountain biking for the first time or to get back on the saddle again. Check out our Toolkit for tools to get the word out about your event. In our Toolkit, you will find Posters and templates for Press Releases and Fliers you can use to help publicize your event.
  3. Take a kid on a ride. Plan to go mountain biking on the first Saturday in October - and bring a kid along for the ride! Check out these helpful tips for taking kids riding and learn about other kids' cycling programs.
  4. Kids - you can find an event in your area. Ride your mountain bike on October 4 and tell your friends!

IMBA's International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day celebrates the life of Jack Doub, an avid teenage mountain biker from North Carolina who had a true passion for the sport from an early age but passed away in 2002. Funding is provided by the Jack Doub Memorial Endowment. The event will take place each year on the first Saturday in October.

Assistance provided by Trips for Kids , helping disadvantaged kids discover mountain biking since 1988!
