2007.12.31 - I trust everyone had a safe and
happy holiday. I wanted to throw some dates out there and try to put
together our Annual board meeting. The January meeting, as you all
know, is important in the sense that we discuss what successes (or
non successes) we had in the previous year. Also, more importantly,
what we can do to keep the club progressing in 2008. For me, 2007
was a good year and we had many new members come on. That was my
wish for 2007 and I believe we did well.
Also, I would like to schedule a trailwork day
for Saturday, January 13th. I'd like to groom the new extension of
'Crooked Stick'. I've seen some interest from new members who are
eager to build some trail.
Thanks and Happy New Year,
Scott

2007.12.21 - It's nearing the end of the year
and that means your Treasurer (i.e. Me) is working overtime to make
sure all contributions are deposited and accounted for. The IRS
allows us to provide a tax receipt to all contributors minus anything
you received in return (i.e. FREE STUFF). It is extremely
important that we get this information correct if we were to receive
an audit by the IRS. Our 501(c)3 status is very important, for
obvious reasons.
So . . . I need YOUR help ! ! !
If any of the columns to the left of your name are in
orange, it means one of two things.
#1: We either know or don't know what you want in terms
of stickers and free gifts; and
#2: We either have or have not delivered your items to
you.
This is the most accurate information we have on file
at this time. Please help me by verifying that the information
pertaining to you is correct. The second page we've added is to
be used by the general public to identify YOU as a monetary
contributor to SVMBA. Please note that a future page will be
added to recognize member's volunteer efforts at trailwork and race
events. Those contributions are also greatly appreciated and will be
recognized.
For now check out the member list via the following
link . . .
It should be noted that SVMBA has a total of 61
members. In 2007, 23 new members joined SVMBA. To everyone who
has encouraged a new member to join this year . . . THANK YOU ! ! !
Thanks everyone,
Chris Tompkins
Secretary - Treasurer
SVMBA

2007.12.19 - Merry Christmas! We will be
giving our Christmas bike away this coming Saturday, December 22nd at
1:00 at Anglers Park. The lucky 14 year old's name is Bradley and his
mother is ecstatic and humbled by our generosity. We were able to
purchase a Raleigh hardtail mountain bike from O.F. Newman for a
reasonable price. So far we have raised $120 for the bike so thanks goes
out to everyone who has donated so far. Another $140 dollars will pay
for the bike without having to extract any money from the club account.
If we don't meet that quota that's quite alright because your membership
dues are represented in a positive way when giving this time of year to
someone less fortunate. I've contacted someone from the Danville
Register and Bee about possibly doing a small story on the donation.
Haven't heard back yet but that would be nice P.R. for the club and
everyone involved in making Bradley's Christmas one to remember!
I thought that after we present the bike to Bradley
we could have a Holiday Club Ride!! Anyone interested in joining me it
would be shortly after presenting the bike and we could ride for a
couple hours after give or take. Next year we hope to promote the bike
giveaway a little sooner than this year and hope to give 3-5 bikes away
and really trump it up!! We believe getting kids on bikes secures the
future of our sport and more importantly gets kids from behind the video
games and t.v. and out into our world of cycling and fitness. A win win
situation!!
I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!
Please try and make it out to the bike giveaway on Saturday if you don't
already have plans.
Thank you,
Scott Buckner -president SVMBA-

2007.12.14 - Well, it's that time of year
again. A time of giving and a time for cheer! I thought that it would be
a good gesture if SVMBA donated a mountain bike to a less fortunate kid
during this holiday season. I called Habitat for Humanity yesterday and
was able to get it all set up. They were able to determine who would
need the bike the most out of the kids in the community. There is a 14
year old boy who wants a bike for Christmas but his mother isn't able to
afford it this year so that's where we come in. Anyway, if you would
like to donate to the bike giveaway you can either send a check to my
address: Scott Buckner (SVMBA)/ 455 Woodlawn Dr./ Danville, Va.
24541. Make sure that you write the check out to SVMBA. Or, you could
drop it off at Hams next week on Tues., Wed., or Thursday after 5:00. If
we don't raise enough through donations we will use funds out of the
club account to meet the cost of the bike.
We will be purchasing the bike through O.F. Newman.
I will actually pick up the bike towards the end of next week so if
anyone is interested in donating let's try and get it in before next
Friday, Dec. 21st.
Thanks and God Bless,
Scott Buckner -president SVMBA-

2007.12.14 - Just wanted to pass along the news
that our website has a refreshed new look. We want to say thanks to
Chris Wiles for our initial website up and now Chris Tompkins is taking on
the job of adding additional content.
