I WISH TO THANK YOU AND YOUR
TALENTED STAFF FOR ORGANIZING A WONDERFUL RACE AT ANGLER’S LAST
SUNDAY. YOU ALL SHOULD BE COMMENDED FOR YOUR EFFORTS. THE COURSE IS
DELIGHTFUL AND A LOT OF FUN TO RIDE. GRAND KUDOS FOR HANDBUILDING SUCH
A NICE COURSE.
I TRAVELED JUST OVER 451
MILES TO ATTEND THE EVENT AND IT WAS CERTAINLY WORTH IT.
HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AGAIN NEXT YEAR.
BEST REGARDS,

Great race. This may have been the best
"1st timer" race I've ever seen. I know you've done some other races,
but stepping it up for a NORBA event is a big step.
Fantastic things:
Race course marking - top notch.
Marshals! Most "+10 year" race promoters
don't have the turns and detours this well monitored
Water !! WOW. I know this is usually not
part of a mtn bike race, but it allowed me to finish!
T-Shirt and other freebies (food). Great
job!
Good Sponsorship support.
Prize selection--Gas cards were a major
hit.
Other stuff was good, but normal for
this type event.
Good parking and start/finish
organization
Fantastic event. I could tell you and
your team put in some serious time for this. Keep it up and I hope to
be out there racing again next year.....

Well guys, you all did a smokin
great job on the Shootout race. The Cycles de Oro-GVC Bike Racing
Team brought more riders here than anywhere we've ever been with
10.
Nowhere has there been more oppressive heat conditions
before, nowhere has there been better swag with a beefy
t-shirt with a real design that riders really will wear, nowhere
has there been as generous food offerings at such a reasonable
cost (i.e. FREE), nowhere has there been as distinctive and unique
medals that everyone talked about, nowhere has there been
trophies for best in class and cash to supplement it, nowhere
has there been so much water on the course to cool everyone down,
nowhere is there a real bathroom(s) that didn't stink, rarely
has there been prizes arranged on tables that you pick what you
would like so the prize really gets used, rarely is there
USAC races that all classes are out at the same time so everyone
finishes fairly close together so our mutual fans can cheer EVERYONE
on so we all feel famous if just for a moment.
Thanks so much from our team
for the fine job you all did to pull off one of the most enjoyable
bike races we've ever attended.

Chris - Just a quick note to thank you,
again, for your coming out to check on my son Banks and I during "The
Shootout" (sorry we were so tardy). We both had a great day together
and I couldn't be more pleased that we chose your venue for his first
"big boy" mountain bike race (based on his after race comments, it
won't be his last). The track was accommodating to all types of riders
(from a 40 year old who hasn't ridden more than 3 miles at one time in
more than 15 years to a 9 year old on a 20" recreation bike). At no
time were we put in a situation I would deem dangerous or too
demanding. The on-line registration process was great. The staff and
volunteers could not have been more helpful or supportive from sign-in
to finish (especially helpful with Banks at the water breaks trying to
cool him off).
Next year my time may actually earn me a
finish. :)
Best wishes!!

The Shootout on Anglers Ridge becomes a
"dual-series" event !!!
02.26.2009 - The 2009
"Shootout on Anglers Ridge" brings together two premier mountain bike racing series
from Virginia and
North Carolina for one great day of racing. SVMBA is pleased
to announce that this year's event will feature
North Carolina's state championship "The Southern Classic
Series" AND Virginia's largest MTB race series
"The Virginia Off-Road Series".
"Danville will be ground zero as competitors from Virginia
and North Carolina converge on Anglers Ridge for the most exciting mountain
bike racing we've ever seen" -- SVMBA Race Director Chris Tompkins.
This will be SVMBA's 7th year of organizing great race
events on one of Virginia's highest-ranked trail systems. We're
confident that our race will be a challenge to most and enjoyed by all.
Long Live the Ridge !!!
We have so much more information to post regarding
directions, updated course maps, sponsor logos, etc.
The most
current information can be found by clicking on "The SHOOTOUT" button above.
You can also check out last year's Shootout results by clicking on the

SVMBA sets date for
"The Shootout on Anglers Ridge"
2009.Sunday May 31st (the weekend AFTER Memorial Day) will be the
stage for the 2nd Annual Shootout on Anglers Ridge. This year's event will
be race #7 on the 11 event schedule.
Also new this year, The Southern Classic Series adds another
venue to its schedule to include The Dark Mountain Trails in North Wilkesboro
for the season-finale event.
We are so excited to be the only Virginia venue in this North
Carolina State Championship series.
Much more information to follow !!!

Thursday night Time Trials at Anglers Ridge

SVMBA will be hosting Thursday night time trials at Anglers
Ridge in September. It will be a great time to meet up with friends and
rip the trails at top-speed to see who makes the best time. All proceeds
benefit SVMBA and the cost is minimal and the fun is optimal. See you
there.
On, Saturday, May 3rd (2008), SVMBA
and Danville Parks, Recreation & Tourism will host race #1 of the Virginia DeRailer
Series. The 6th Annual "Southside Scramble" kicks off another great
year of DeRailer
series racing in 2008.
On Sunday, June 8th (2008), SVMBA hosts
Danville's second MTB race event of 2008, joining the Maxxis Southern Classic
Series with Virginia's first-ever entry into this
long-running competition. Formerly, the Cane Creek Cup, this series
has put on races across South Carolina and North Carolina in years past.
This year, Southern Classic Series organizers add Danville to it's 10 race
roster and we couldn't be more excited.
SVMBA has spent the past 6 years building more than 17 miles of
Southside's sweetest singletrack and the Anglers Ridge Trail System has
established it's reputation as an outstanding trail system offering great
"cross-country" riding.
The Inaugural Shootout on Anglers Ridge
is almost here
SVMBA members and supporters,
The biggest event we've ever put on is little more than 10 days
away. As we prepare to host a new series and participants who may never have
even heard of Danville's Anglers Ridge Trail System, or SVMBA for that matter,
I can tell you that the excitement and buzz is reaching critical levels.
As a lifetime Danville native, I am as proud of Danville and
all that SVMBA has done over the past 6 years as I have ever been.
On June 8th we (our town and our club) will welcome the
Southern Classic Series to Danville as it makes it's first-ever stop in the
State of Virginia. Folks . . . this is going to be a big deal. Who would
have ever thought that after 6 years of hard work crafting Anglers Ridge, that
we would be hosting a North Carolina State Championship event that would
attract racers from across the state of North Carolina. Some racers will be
coming from as far away as South Carolina . . . Wow ! ! !
There will be a LONG break between now and next Spring so we
hope you will consider volunteering for this great event. We will need
everyone's help over the next two weekends. This weekend's trailwork will be
instrumental in putting the final touches on our great course. Weedeaters and
blowers will be needed to polish this course into the shining gem that it is.
The following weekend will find us doing something on all three
days (Friday through Sunday) as we set up tents and cones on Friday, prepare
for any last-minute course fixes due to weather and welcome out-of-towners and
locals with a warm-up course ride on Saturday.
On Sunday, we have a tremendous amount of things going on.
Registration starts at 8:00 and we will have roughly 1.5 hours to get 150 or
more participants registered and prepped for the race. We need at least 10
volunteers as early as 7:30 am to assist with parking, directing people to
registration, registering riders giving them their race numbers, t-shirts,
etc.
From 10:00 am to 1:00 pm volunteers will be needed out on the
course to keep racers on course and to report any injuries.
From 1:30 pm until 2:15 pm, our awards ceremony will be in full
swing and we'll need volunteers to man the prize tables and make sure the
event finishes off in top form.
Remember, we have t-shirts and food for our volunteers and we
hope to make this event worth your while. I'm certain this will be an event
you'll enjoy and one that you'll be proud to be a part of.
If you are able to lend a helping hand, call us at anytime on
Saturday May 31st, Friday June 6th, Saturday June 7th, or Sunday June 8th.
You can rest assured that we will know of a way that you can contribute to the
success of this event.
Its our time to shine . . .
Chris Tompkins
Race Director - SVMBA
The 2008 Shootout results have been posted ! ! !
We have gotten so many complements from everyone. Despite
the long line at registration and the heat, the race was great.
We had 105 racers for our first race and that was great
considering the heat was awful. Racers from North Carolina came from as
far away as Greenville, Apex, Raleigh, Archdale, Greensboro, Hendersonville,
Asheboro, Charlotte, Colefax, Gastonia, Mtn. Home, Winterville, Morganton,
Southern Pines . . . WOW !!!
The racers from South Carolina drove from Columbia, Tega Cay.
The racers from Virginia drove from far away places like
Roanoke, Fancy Gap, Appomatox, Williamsburg, Upperville, Powhatan, Arlington,
and Charlottesville.
We are grateful that so many folks came from so far away to take
part in our first "Shootout".
We're already making plans for next year's event ! ! !
We'll post pictures and possibly some video in the upcoming
weeks, so check back soon for those updates.
Thanks,
Chris Tompkins
